Here you can find information on how to install and run Ubuntu Feisty Fawn on the Sony VAIO VGN-SZ1M/B .

Linux installation

First, i tried booting with the Ubuntu Fesity Fawn, the Live Cd installations worked fine. Materials like Wifi, Sound and Dual Core Processor had been well recognized. Here is my {/etc/apt/sources.list}

Next, i update my system

root@vaio:~# apt-get update
root@vaio:~# apt-get dist-upgrade

Graphic Card Nvidia Geforce Go 7400

Nice job of Ubuntu teams! Thx all!

root@vaio:~# apt-get install nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx
Lecture des listes de paquets... Fait

Next enable glx and edit your {xorg.conf}, like follows:

root@vaio:~# nvidia-glx-config
root@vaio:~# nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf

In the section module, check if the following lines are commented:

# Load "GLcore"
# Load "dri"

and don’t forget to check if Nvidia Drivers are enabled, you must read nvidia and not nv in the Device Section !

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Videocard0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    BoardName "GeForce Go 7400"
EndSection

reboot X by CTRL+ALT+SUPP, now you must see Nvidia Logo !!! I used NVIDIA Driver Version: 1.0-9631

My kernel:

nadir@vaio:~$ uname -a
Linux vaio 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Wed May 23 01:46:23 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

Network

I use Applet NetworkManager 0.6.4. It works fine !!! It supports unencrypted, WEP, WPA, and WPA2 networks !!! Very easy to configure !

Fn keys and S1-S2

Fn keys work fine but the key S1-S2 are out of order.
